Bespoke one on one hairdressing and beauty was Michael and Sharon’s dream when they created Cactus. Both with a fashionable career spanning over 20 years, Michael and Sharon have worked with some of the best names in the industry from Elizabeth Arden, Steiner, John Freida, Espa, Charles Worthington & Elemis. Cactus in Colchester brings you the best that is organic beauty with the a Italian range O'Way & the french beauty range Zao.
Both O'Way & Zao products use ingredients formulated according to green chemistry with the highest level of concentrated essential oils and bio dynamic ingredients. They are created from botanical raw materials that are sourced from fair trade networks and are packaged in materials with low environmental impact, recycled or 100% recyclable. Cactus promises to offer their wealth and experience combined with their creativity to help you achieve the best possible to suit you and your day to day needs.

Meet michael barnett

Michael has worked in some of the best salons in the world, as a hairdresser to the stars, and brings a wealth of experience and cutting-edge looks. With over twenty-five years of experience and a resume that reads like a fashion magazine, he is sure to turn a few heads.
He started his career at The Elizabeth Arden Red Door salon in Toronto. Michael quickly got a name for himself as a talented, versatile hairdresser, creating the latest trends and styles. He has showcased his work in many magazines, along with makeovers and tips on how to create looks for their readers. Michael helped to launch the Versace Make-Up brand at their flagship location in 1999. |

Michael decided to move uptown and take residency at Delineation Hair and Skin Essentials, as their Creative Director and to relaunch the in-house hair salon. He very quickly gained the respect of magazine editors which kept him in the beauty columns and was crowned the "makeover man!"
With Michael's client list ever growing, it was time for him to expand and branch out on his own. Michael opened his first salon in the affluent heart of Toronto. With news spreading of Michael's new salon he was approached by John Freida to take creative control of their brand for the Canadian market, and led to him appearing in the national television makeover series called "Diva on a Dime"; turning locks from ho hum to holy wow!
In 2006 Michael took a position a the exclusive Charles Worthington salon in Covent Garden, London, quickly moving up the ladder to take the high profile position at their Dorchester Hotel salon as Head Stylist and Salon Manager.
Michael was the approached by the L'Oreal education team to head up their colour education through Eastern England. His role was to demonstrate and train other hairdressers in the latest L'Oreal products, up to the minute techniques and setting their education standards.
During this time Michael was able to draw on his experiences of all the salons visited, to take the best of the best and together with his successful career, bring you Cactus; where the bar has been raised and every client is treated like a star!
